First, this is wonderful film. Cliches and stereotypes exist in life. Get over it. Everyone has something about them that fits a stereotype. Stereotypes exist because people DO stuff.
If you knew anything about the 70s, you would realize how many brilliant cultural bits and pieces are documented throughout the lyrics and the film itself.
Not only is Basketball Jones STILL hysterically funny all these years later, it is humor with a great love for the culture of the time. Enjoy it!

It's a lot easier to understand if you lived in the times. I graduated high school in 1975. It brought back a ton of memories of a much simpler time. It was just what was popular - no worse than Beavis & Butt-Head or Southpark. What are we when we loose the ability to laugh at ourselves. Don't think I want to be around then. Show me one person on this planet who is not racist towards an ethnic group or people.

If you read about Tommy Chong you would know that Tommy was married to a fine woman who was black, had children with 2 black women and still keeps in touch with both of them. In fact he was in a band that was signed to Motown in the 60s and still keeps in touch with many friends he had back in those days who happen to be black. So if you think this video is a jab at black people, you're mistaken. Tommy's best friends back then were black. It's not meant as a racial issue.
