Color Footage of Tacoma Narrows

Uploaded by: archt01
Video Description:
Some of the footage in this is pre collapse and is hard to find. It gives you an idea why it was named Galloping Gertie since Transverse waves were visible along the span

no... is harmonic ressonance. not just pressure.
this happened coz ... ( 1 month ago by nishnish12)
this happened coz the frequency of the driving force came dangerously close to the natural frequency of the bridge, thus causing a very large rise in amplitude of the "oscillation". And then we all know what happened :(

too bad hes right ... ( 1 month ago by mclarenf1905)
too bad hes right retard, it called resonant frequency, and it was caused by the driving force of the waves having the same frequency, or very close to the frequency of the bridge.

Buddy it was wind. I am sorry but I am going to take what I learn is school about building bridges and why the colapse instead of some guy on youtube so dont bother replying my back because I wont bealive you ither way.

mclarenf1905 is right, as was the guy before
is was resonant frequency, where the waves of the wind or any sound have the same or very close frequency of the object itself. it also explains why glass may break when an opera singer hits a high note. The singer puts out a frequency close to the natural frequency of the glass, causing it to vibrate and break. same thing happened to the bridge

its old because it happened in the 1940s.
Saw this in school, ... ( 1 month ago by burnwood)
Saw this in school, as people say here it was resonant frequency that made the bridge collapse. I heard that it was very windy that day and the frequence of the sound the wind gave was very similar to the frequence of the bridge. So the bridge started to swing with the winds frequency til it collapsed.

Actually, there was a dog in the car, but a Professor Farquarson went to the car and got the dog out about 20 seconds before the bridge collapsed.

ACTUALLY, the dog ... ( 4 weeks ago by hippopotomonsterous)
ACTUALLY, the dog died because the "Professor Farquarson" attempted to save the dog but ultimatley failed, resulting in the overall fatality of the dog with the collapse of the bridge.
