Inflation results when the amount of money printed or coined increases faster than the creation of new goods and services. Money is a "token" of the wealth of a nation. If more tokens are created than new wealth, it takes more tokens to buy the same goods. Having a currency linked to gold is illogical - there is only a certain amount of gold, whereas the amount of goods and services is always rising.

Dude, you are right about the politicians but not about the rich capitalitsts. These capitalists are the ones that need to take responsibility. Thanks lastnymleft Working in public transit is no guarantee of work but it's a start. Public transit is partly funded by sales tax and that's on the decline. When things get bad they will have to find some way of paying us, and it won't be what we're used to. A lot of the mechanics with long might have trouble even getting to work with the new lower wages. Some may find a crash pad in town and commute home on weekends. I've set my life up so I'm close to work (I can ride a bike there). . .

So when things get bad, my frugal low debt lifestyle, my close proximity to work, my 11 or 12 month rotating food pantry, My ability to cook ultra healthy and ultra cheap meals, My steadily increasing knowledge of gardening, my secure (away from home) supply of precious metals, my 150CC motor scooter for longer trips and shopping, my ability to live on a really tight budget, and my unusually secure job should hopefully allow me to suffer at least a little less than most. (if I don't get shot).

You've set yourself up well, but one more thing: a driving instructor once told me "Think for them, too". No matter how well you set yourself up, the people around you may have greatest influence. Try to ensure you have "extra" in which to barter/buy yourself out of trouble. Barterable items like spirit alcohol, pantryable food (eg bags of rice), organic seeds. And get to know your neighbors well, so that you can delevop a little self-supporting community, rather than turning on each other.
