I totally agree with your comment.
As we say in France: "English people are our best enemies", which is definitely a positive saying.
It means if there was only one game we would want to win, that would be the one against England. There is a big rivalry and we love it. It also means there is respect and we do like English people and England, for most of us, hence the amount of French people living in England for example. But then again we won't miss an occasion to tease each other. ~;)
