Yeah well, i don't really know how i do it, since i just refined my way of skiing the last time i skied and actually started to carve, but this, i guess they are carving in the beginning of the turn, then "sliding" at the end of the turn, which is good in steep slopes, so i dunno

This is a good and wellpresented series for anyone learning to ski, period. Some years ago french instructors tried to ban danish instructors from their resorts, but that was only because they felt threatened by the talented and friendly danes. That may be the cause of some of the more "serious looking" bad comments from "professionals".

To Panserborne: No. There's a limit to how short a turn you can do while carving. That is expressed by the "turning radius" of your skis, which is typically around 15 metres for an all-round carving ski. But a "short turn" is much, much tighter than that (and is a prerequisite for making quick corrections in rough terrain and to control your speed on a steep slope).

it works better on a dry slope and it is easier bcoz the slope surface is consistent...so if u gunna say something know what ur on about. btw i was the 2005/2006 under 17 scottish dry slope champion

This vid is outdated indeed, however don't make the mistake thinking wide stance skiing is all there is. Mogul skiing for example still asks for a very narrow stance. Furthermore it can be an indispensable all-moutain technique when venturing off-piste. Have a look at Patrick Deneen and see what a modern short turn can look like (especially on the groomers at 11secs and 1.07) watch?v=cGCtKB1wYPA

ah noone told me that before. i've just used my edges. so he's saying just rotate the skis by sliding them out to each side?

I disagree with this.. if you do a proper turn, using the ski, the ski will push you upwards at the end of the turn. The sliding out to each side is not something I've heard of... I think it may be an exercise he is suggesting, rather than the way to do it?
