metcalf's shoulders were resting on caldwell's arm and chest. the ref felt between metcalf's arm and caldwells chest and assumed that the mat was caldwell's chest. what a loser ref, he really should be at home learning braille.

The ref actually made the correct call. Metcalf was not able to better his situation, and was "stuck". There was also an asst. ref that also agreed with the fall.
For all of you "experts" how was Metcalf going to get out of this? Without time expiring? STUCK! Both are great wrestlers, and Metcalf won the NCAA's.

I agree that the ref made the correct call. However, if you look at the NCAA rules the pinning portion of the back extends almost to the middle portion of the back. One of wrestling's biggest misunderstandings is that the shoulders need to "pinned down" in order to record a fall.

So the ref said to himself "wow he's never gonna make it, I guess I'll just go ahead call him pinned now!" I've seen people much less skilled than Metcalf survive that long in a spladle. If you've ever wrestled before you'd know that it's very hard to pin someone with a spladle. It doesn't really matter though as this match was not important.

Would you just call both wrestlers pinned in a stalemate since neither can improve their position and time would just run out? Just because Metcalf doesn't have a way out of this doesn't mean the ref should go ahead and call something a pin that's not a pin. Being "stuck" means being "pinned", not unable to improve position.

Also, I'm not saying there was no way he could be pinned in that spot, just that it's difficult to pin someone with that move. The reasoning that people here have given that he wouldn't have gotten out so you should call him pinned is completely retarded.

cadwell SPLADLED him. its almost impossible NOT to get pinned in that position! and last time a check a pin is more valuble to your team than a tech fall.

Man tough subject, but metcalf wasn't pinned the ref looked like he was taking his time, couldnt feel space and called it to call it. His shoulders were on the other guys stomach. But to give the guy cred that was a nice spadle and before that he controlled the match.

looking at this again i saw that his scapula isn't even touching the mat, terrible call. terrible ref, he isn't suppose to feel between them, ever and especially like that.
