INDIAN WARLI TRIBAL DANCE

Uploaded by: lokesharma1
Video Description:
The Warli tribes of India are an ancient colourful people who are hard pressed to preserve their culture in changing times. They love their lifestyle ..of hunting and farming which is reflected in their paintings with rice paste .Even their musical instruments are made from natural elements .but progress finds the warlis seeking jobs elsewhere .This has resulted in their change of dress as well . they wear pants and shirts like other people who have lost their identities. However we were lucky to get them in their costumes . It was some effort to trace them and get this footage . We drove deep into the forest up to a cliff where they were having their get together. They were kind to cooperate. But there was a hitch ..a storm was brewing up and the light was bad . However Nature smiled at us and the clouds parted for an hour to give us beautiful evening light . And we immediately went about our business with our professional equipment .I instructed the cinematographer the way I wanted the dance to be covered .And the camera rolled and the dance began .Ooh were we happy to get the whole dance without the clouds covering the sun and the rain too seemed to wait for us .Having canned the shots we loaded our equipment in our vans and the thunder claps gave the announcement of the approaching storm .We drove a long way back to the city of Mumbai through dense forest road . The lightning felled trees around us .But the flaming trees fortunately did not obstruct the road too much and let us pass.Returning back , I edited this matter on avid and found the effect to be quite satisfactory . I hope viewers find it a rare record of a dying culture .

How is it evil? The enitre dance shows representation of an understanding about death and its nature.
(By the way, this isn't a mean response, I'm not trying to say fuck you. It does seem evil, but it has symbology in it that describes a certain peace about war.)

yeah. I love learning about different cultures and for some odd reason, people think that if it's not like theirs, it's evil or bad. i just don't get it. I live in the city and I would give anything to be out in the country dancing and simpy working with what is around me. I just don't get the misunderstanding.

Thanks for your support Althea . I appreciate your attempt at understanding the dance. If you browse the sites you may find more information on these tribes.Few follow the tradition of hunting and farming today. They are gainfully employed in cities. They are just happy to dance and express their joy of life through art about their life

Thanks Anish for your appreciation .Understanding different peoples is a passion with me.Imagine the generations of growth that gives each one his unique character . And all must respect these indegenious cultures without trying to impose beliefs.I believe that growth and progress should be shared respecting the identities of all cultures .

Beautiful. It reminds me of how we are all connected, because you can see similarities to the horah, certain African tribal dances, and even old Irish folk dances...

This is simply beautiful. I love seeing ancient cultures still alive and well. I feel a sense of pride seeing them with so much energy even after so much western plaque and assault. What strong character. This is in my favorites :-) It's very eye opening for awareness of real people all over the world.

yes ..when i saw them perform , i too was thrilled and felt that this culture continuity was valuable and would survive despite all odds!and it does take strong character and belief not to be overwhelmed by the forces of 'progress'!!
