I like both films to be honest.
Both are about as equally funny as well.
As for people saying the newer one is truer to the book, it is in a way but the feel, wonka's character, a bit of the story, and some of the things about the bad kids are way off. This one had it going in those departments, as where the newer one progressed more like the book. I'll have to agree that the oompa loompa songs in the newer ones are dry and a bit cringeworthy due to the references, DE's music was good though!
