I just wanted to comment that this is a great song, and that iksluhcap, this record is a 78, most 33 1/3's have 5-6 songs. Otherwise one of my favorite Glenn Miller songs.

I was at Goodwill this past Thursday and I found the original 78 of Glenn Miller's "Moonlight Serenade", so I got it and it's in okay shape for its age. This original US release was on the Bluebird label and it is now a collectable. I got it along with a number of 78's. This song is still remains a classic. I might play it on my GE Wildcat soon.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard that this was Glenn Miller's first musical composition, for a music class he was taking as a young man. The arrangement famous today, from his orchestra, and from this record, was created by someone else, for Mr. Miller.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but what has this beautiful music got to do with politics and arguments. It is so obviously written about romance and love. Surely if any thing it should make us feel warm inside like you did when you first fell in love. Or perhaps it should remind us that this was the last tune many men and women danced to before going to war never to return. Sixty years later and were still fighting.
Will we ever learn, so listen again and think this time.

Glenn was in in his 30's when he wrote this, 1934 or 35 I think, the original title being "Now I Lay Me Down to Weep". This was actually the B side to "Sunrise Serenade", which I suppose Victor records thought would be catchy. It was retitled "Moonlight Serenade", and Mitchell Parish wrote some quite good lyrics, which unfortunately are seldom heard. There were lyrics on the original version, Eddie Heyman I think, but I could be mistaken. Never heard them.
