Karelin wouldn't be able to defend Fedor's leg locks and other submissions in a "no holds barred" event. Karelin is known for his trademark "Karelin Lift" and has been somewhat of an iconic figure. All of Karelin's opponents in the heavyweight division in past Olympics have been overweight and undersized in terms of strength and muscle. Karelin dominated because of sheer strength. Fedor is a combination of strength, speed, skill, and maneuverability. Fedor would beat him no doubt.

I doubt if Lesnar wouldn't have a chance. In fact, I think that Lesnar would be the best opponent for Karelin if Karelin was in his prime. Lesnar would be the closest match in strength. I think Lesnar would have a chance to beat Karelin.

You have to understand the way Greco (and freestlyle) are exercised in europe and russia. Trust me, after 10 years of training, you know how to break a leg or a hand. After 15 years, you know how to change the position of your hand to change a lock a into a strangle.
You just can't use them. It's considered cheating.
Many moves, that Wrestlers do in their daily training, already put heavy weight on shoulders and elbows and necks. We just try to avoid hurting each other.

JUst because he did the lift doesnt mean that all he knew, greco roman wrestling was a martial art for soldiers, so yea i think he knew a few other moves, plus its not only about strength, its endurance, you tell me a guy who jogs with logs on their shoulder.

I'm sure greco-roman was a martial art for soldiers just as much as sambo is now for the russian gov't officials. Running with logs on the shoulders is a tremendous feat of strength but doesn't necessarily have any practicality in fighting. Look at how Fedor trains. He trains hardcore as well and maybe not as intense as Karelin but its effective and functional. Fedor has fought guys a foot taller and 200 pounds heavier than him and he beat them.

Nothing huh? Well, you'll see Lesnar dominating the MMA world for a bit. Karelin's opponents were always undersized and undermatched. Karelin would surely struggle against Lesnar. Between Fedor and Lesnar, anything is possible.

I do not like Lesnar, but how would Karelin handle Lesnars punches, the wrestling ring and the UFC octagon are different scenarios, I want to see Lesnar retired permanently, it would be great to see Lesnar carried out on a stretcher because some smaller guy snapped his leg

men that is soo wrong, brock and Karelin are about same height, and lesnar weights about 120kg while karelin weight 135kg when he was competing... and he wasnt so pumpt up like lesnar is. People are forgetting that Karelin was a greco-roman wrestler...totally different style from what Lesnar wrestled...Lesnar only wrestled American collegiate wrestling...never freestyle or greco-roman which are national/Olympic style wrestling...in freestyle and NCAA college as well as high school wrestling, one of the main objectives is that you can attack the legs of your opponent to get a takedown...in greco, you cannot attack the legs while on your feet...only throws.
