when you fall down ... ( 4 months ago by Gymlover)
when you fall down the stairs bad things can happen as well.
I agree that they do push their bodies to the limit but in this case that didn't cause the accident. It was such a simple vault (every 6 year old learns it) that it's more a matter of not being fully concentrated. When you do something difficult you focus but she knew she could do this easily and it went wrong anyway.

This really wasn't ... ( 3 months ago by Lyssenk0)
This really wasn't related to difficulty...she broke her neck doing a very simple front handspring roll-out as a warm up vault. She was warming up a front handspring front layout with half twist and she was doing a front handspring high off the vault and then was going to do a forward roll after hitting the ground with her feet. Many gymnasts still do this today if they are warming up front handspring vaults.

The caused of this ... ( 3 months ago by ernest72)
The caused of this accident was that when Lan running to the vault for her warm-up, one stupid romanian coach pulled his head closed to the vault that distracts Lan' and also her routine! Anyway, although she is now paralyzed, Lan never gave up and she is now a uni student; news reporter and advocate for the disabled! Just showed how strong she is and a good example for those disabled people! God bless her!

ernest72 gives a pretty good answer to that question today :)
She has been back to New York recently and she went back to the doctor who treated her years ago. Her English is really good.
Yeah! It's so ... ( 3 months ago by hanalyse)
Yeah! It's so simple that anyone can do it! Why are there even gymnasts when people on the internet can yammer on and on about how easy it is to do this stuff anyway? Go on, Lyssenk0! Make a video doing this, and post it for us to see! I'm sure since it's SO EASY, you'd have no problems showing us.

"You don't know what you've got until you lose it. We forget to be grateful for the important moments in life."
I agree. We should all be grateful for what we have. You should see her now... she's doing much better than they expected. I admire her strength. I can't imagine how she's had it.
there's no need for ... ( 3 months ago by Gymlover)
there's no need for this and I agree with Lyssenk0. It's one of the first vaults children in gymnastics learn. It's a required competitive vault (with landing on feet of course) in the lower levels.
It's a timer handspring which is not even landed on your feet but you roll through it.
It's so easy for the elites they might forget to still concentrate on it and the vaulting horse back then wasn't all that safe neither compared to the new table. You could easily slip of with your hands
The casual "oh, it ... ( 3 months ago by hanalyse)
The casual "oh, it was a rookie mistake" attitude is calloused. It's easy to sit back and talk about the ease of something nobody here can do. And if they can do it, let's see it. I can't do it, I don't think it's "easy". And it wasn't always "easy" for the "elites". They worked their ever loving tails off to get where they are. No part of that is easy.
Just the fact that ... ( 3 months ago by Gymlover)
Just the fact that you can't do it makes it necessary to explain that this was no mistake on a super high difficulty element that needs years of training and failing before succesful, and makes people argue about the need of all that high difficulty. The fact that it's a rather simple vault (yes I had to compete it when I was 10) takes those discussions away. Of course when you're not a gymnast it all looks difficult but when you're a gymnast you know it's "easy". It's not to offend anyone else.

There's no need to personally attack someone when they're stating a fact. Lyssenk0 is right that for elite gymnasts it is a simple skill.
She was injured b/c ... ( 4 weeks ago by marieked)
She was injured b/c a coach moved the springboard and she could not stop her vault. She said so in an interview. It was not a mistake she made, rather a mistake a coach made trying to help her.
