The constitution is not the purported 'living' document the social engineers would have you or I believe.
The needs of society to change are provided for in AMENDMENTS, not making law from the bench or executive order. The constitution has, in past times, been refered to as RUGGED- meaning very clearly to strictly limit the federal government from its natural tendancy to grow. This requires vigilant citizenry.
Anyone leading you to believe otherwise is a BAR member. lol

Why, at this time, when the nation seems to be teetering on a very severe financial crisis -- with the housing bubble collapsing, jobs disappearing, the dollar rapidly losing value and states proposing potentially life-endangering austerity measures -- why is it necessary to expand surveillance which is historically the method that is used to intimidate people into silence and squelch dissent?

If you were to try to make a challenge to the politcal structure you would find who holds the real power..and its not the people.
Why do you think that any would be dictator always goes for control of the army, police and media first. The first two are already under effective control of the Whitehouse and the last isn't too far away.
When you have a gun poked in your face telling you to desist from political dissent then the point might come home to you...hence sanctioned protest zones.

We don't need to challenge the political structure. We need to challenge the people we elected and administer the within that structure.
The people elect the representative....then we let them run willy nilly without an real accountability. If we hold them accountable by not electing (or re-electing)those who dont deserve it, we begin to have a say once again.
It's not political dissent I favor.

You are part right and part way out.
Crooks have been running the show for ages. In that time the politicains have been making changes to the rules here and there to create a political structure which suits them not you.
It will take more than electing the same sorts of people to office to get the political structure changed back into to resemble what it was.
When you have a system that is based on people who say "I know what is good for you..." its something seriously flawed.

We have no clue what was discussed in that closed session. We know the stated reason for the closed session, but what was actually discussed is out of our reach. Even if it had nothing to do with fisa, any congressman cannot say what was discussed. This whole thing is messed up.
